Lyrics

"Do It To Me" came from such a personal place, inspired by that feeling of being completely drawn to someone. For me, a person’s eyes are always the first thing that pull me in—they have this way of telling a story all on their own. That’s where all the ocean imagery came from; it felt like the perfect way to describe the depth and endless pull of their gaze. Lines like “Swimming in your eyes, got me by surprise” came straight from that overwhelming feeling of being captivated by someone so effortlessly.
I wanted the song to feel as fluid and dreamy as those emotions, which is why the water metaphors flow throughout the lyrics. The repetition of “How you do it to me” was my way of capturing that unshakable thought of, “How does this person have me feeling this way?” Writing it was such an organic process—it all came together naturally, and I wanted to keep it true to the raw, unfiltered emotions of being completely infatuated.

Melody

The melody of "Do It To Me" leans into the lush and fun vibes of early 2000s R&B, creating something that feels timeless and irresistibly singable. It’s much more straightforward than my single LUV, with a melody designed to be easy for listeners to hum or sing along with, making it feel approachable and catchy. Composed over a pre-made beat by my producer Lil ZenD, the melody perfectly complements the positive energy of the track, creating a sense of warmth and joy.
Vocally, the melody plays with contrasts to keep things fresh. Most of it is delivered in a strong, mixed belt, but there are moments where it transitions into a light, crisp, airy head voice before returning back again. This dynamic shift adds texture and keeps the melody engaging from start to finish. The overall vibe is uplifting, polished, and fun, making it a track that’s as enjoyable to listen to as it is to sing.

Arrangement+Production

The backing vocals in "Do It To Me" were such a fun and creative part of the process. Starting at the chorus, I used doubling to create a wide stereo image that makes the vocals feel like they’re surrounding you. On top of that, I added ad libs to bring in a sense of soul and engagement, with some of them acting as harmonic arcs to subtly lift the emotion. For the pre-verse, there’s a layer of harmonies that serves as a soft, supportive bed for the lead vocal, while in the second verse, little ad libs pop up to add depth and keep the energy flowing.
The bridge was my favorite part to produce. I wanted to create the feeling of an ocean, so I layered in an ocean sample and surrounded the lead vocal with waves of harmonies and ad libs that come and go, almost like ripples. There’s also a fun effect on the lyric “into infinity” that adds a wet echo, giving the sensation of diving into water—it’s hard to describe, but it ties the whole theme together.
In the final hook, everything builds into a mix of distinct vocal layers, with a strong belt vocal driving home the emotion. It’s a moment that feels like a release, bringing all the energy and soul of the song together. The goal was to make the backing vocals feel alive and immersive, and I think they really help bring the song’s story to life.

The Story Behind "Do it To Me"

Do it To Me... Gosh. This song was born in a 2010 Volvo xc70 in a QDoba parking lot in Parker, CO on a hot summer day. Had my feet sprawled across the dashboard, AC blasting, writing this tune. I had so much fun writing this track, it came to me unusually easy. So much so that after penning it in my journal, I rushed to the studio to record the first draft including lead and backing vocals. The title of the track was inspired by the name of the beat one of my main beat producers Lil ZenD sent over titled "Do It For Me". The content was inspired by a crush I had at the time and how special he made me feel every time we talked.
